Queer Lisboa 30 presents the newly restored 4K version of Aarin Burch’s Spin Cycle as part of Reclaiming Futures, the festival’s 30th-anniversary retrospective. Screening with Cheryl Dunye’s landmark feature The Watermelon Woman, Spin Cycle is placed in direct conversation with a foundational work of Black lesbian cinema. Across the retrospective, Queer Lisboa also situates Burch’s film within a lineage that includes Marlon Riggs. The festival calls Spin Cycle “a poetic reflection on desire and the creative process” and writes that Burch’s mirror to herself “opens up a new cinematic language for Black queerness to the world.”
